Like every year, the third day of the Sydney slowly gathers momentum throughout the day to climax with the Equestrian NSW FEI Grand Prix Freestyle. The gates open as the sun rises and the crowds increase as the day unfolds.  Many finals and freestyles were held on the last day which basically means pressure on both horse and rider is heading to the pointy end of the competition.

The Young Horse Championships has always proved to be one of the favourite fixtures on the Sydney CDI program and this year has been no exception.

Round 2 of the Championships saw an exciting day of competition, proving there is a wealth of talented ‘young blood’ in the Australian ranks.

Visiting FEI 4* Judge, Cesar Torrente from Columbia has this to say about the standard of the young horse classes at the Sydney CDI 2017.

IT’S DOWSLEY’S DAY

Matthew Dowsley has had a phenomenal start to the Sydney CDI 2017 – with a remarkable three wins on the board.

Dowsely’s day of domination kicked off with the Trailrace – Grand Prix (CDN), which he won on DON DESANDRO (owned by Cheryl Smith) with a score of 67.460

When she’s got her game face on, you ain’t messin’ with this lady. But this evening the sometimes seriously scary world no. 1, Germany’s Isabell Werth, really let her hair down during the prizegiving ceremony after clinching her third FEI World Cup™ Dressage title in Omaha (USA). Drenching American runner-up Laura Graves (29) and third-placed British star Carl Hester (49) in a fountain of champagne she celebrated big-time on the podium.

She’s 47 and formidable, an exquisite horsewoman and a long-time legend as the most medalled athlete in her sport. Despite a few glitches in her performance with the fabulous mare Weihegold today, Germany’s Isabell Werth won the opening Grand Prix at the FEI World Cup™ Dressage Final in Omaha, Nebraska by a comfortable 2.5 mark margin when scoring 82.300..

“I’m completely happy, but I’ll have to calm my horse down before Saturday because she got so excited in the prizegiving!”
