Congratulations - Suzy Jarratt wins major award

CONGRATULATIONS to our senior writer SUZY JARRATT WINNING INTERNATIONAL AWARD FOR EQUESTRIAN JOURNALISM

During the recent World Cup in Paris it was announced that Equestrian News & Lifestyle’s senior writer, Suzy Jarratt, had won an International award for equestrian journalism. Annually sponsored by Alltech, McCauley’s and the IAEJ (International Association for Equestrian Journalists) the theme for the 2017-18 contest was ‘Partnerships’.

Into this contest’s ‘article’ category (the other two are broadcasting and photography) she submitted a feature entitled ‘The Unusual Benefits of Horses’ which appeared in the Summer 2017 edition of EQUESTRIAN NEWS & LIFESTYLE about blind people and their relationships with horses. It included stories about a UK para-equestrian based in the South of France, a horseman training miniature Shetlands to be guide ponies in Israel, a sight-impaired rider from W.A. and opera singer, Andrea Bocelli, and his horses.

This feature was the first of a two-part series - the second appeared in the Autumn edition of EN&L. The story was beautifully presented by EN&L’s art director, Julie Carter.

EQUESTRIAN NEWS & LIFESTYLE made its national debut in the Summer of 2015. It was created by Camille Alexander the publisher/editor of The Equestrian News magazines which are distributed free of charge around all the horse areas of NSW – the Hawkesbury, the Hunter and the Highlands. It had been suggested to Camille that she should charge for these magazines which enjoy a regular readership of 30,000 monthly. Instead she decided to develop a coffee-table quarterly based on the quality publication she had worked for in the past Raceweek. Much of her inspiration came from her friend the late Lucy Monro, an exceptional equestrian photojournalist, who was publisher/editor of “Equestrio” a luxury lifestyle publication focusing on the world of horses.

During Camille’s years with the regional community based equestrian magazines she has gathered together a group whose talents are being effectively utilised and showcased in every national edition of EN&L which is sold throughout Australia via newsagents and select saddlery stores. "I am very proud of Suzy and the award and would like to thank everyone who has supported the Equestrian News team inclusive of our wonderful photographers and advertisers, for without everyones support the EN&L would not be in circulation" Camille said.

She is delighted by the news of this award which will be presented to Suzy at the World Equestrian Games in Tryon, North Carolina in September 2018.
