2017 DNSW Young Rider Program Launch

Dressage NSW is excited to announce a revamped Dressage Young Rider Program to be launched with a Youth Dressage Clinic on 28-29 January 2017. The program is aimed at dressage riders between the ages of 8 and 21 years. The committee of DNSW welcomes Mandy Jones as the co-opted Young Rider Program Coordinator and Mandy will form a dedicated sub-committee to run the Young Rider program on behalf of DNSW.

The first clinic in January 2017 will be open to all riders 8-21.  Future clinics will only be open to DNSW members who register for the YR Squad Program.

The program will have 4 components:

Regular Squad Clinics:

Including both a YR Development Squad and YR Performance Squad, the clinics will encourage participation by Young Riders in the sport of dressage, recognise demonstrated performance, identify and foster talent and provide pathways to EA, State and National competition. The first clinic will be held at Clarendon, using senior riders/instructors, with the potential to hold regional clinics in the future, according to demand. As well as lessons and protocol tests, off horse activities on topics such as what it takes to become an elite athlete, putting together freestyle tests, interpreting dressage rules, off horse fitness, etc will be included.  The program of 3 clinics throughout 2017 will also encourage riders to build supportive networks of friends and fellow competitors.

DNSW YR Leaderboard:

DNSW currently runs an Open and AOR Leaderboard. From 2017 a Young Rider Leaderboard will commence with awards to be made annually at the DNSW Pirouettes Party (held Nov/Dec). All Young Riders (8-21) who are DNSW members and who compete anywhere in the State in official dressage competitions will be eligible to participate in the YR Leaderboard.

DNSW YR Junior committee:

Young riders themselves will have the opportunity to contribute to the growth of the sport at YR level through the formation of a junior committee which will give them the opportunity to interact with the decision makers of the sport and have input into the future of their sport. DNSW YR Junior committee members must be members of DNSW.

DNSW is delighted to announce the Inaugural DNSW YR Ambassador of the Year for 2017 is Grace Kay.  Grace epitomises the qualities of an outstanding Ambassador not only successfully competing through the Young Rider ranks, but consistently contributing to the sport of dressage as a positive role model.

Future DNSW YR Ambassadors of the Year will be selected from the Young Rider Squad. This award will provide recognition for a senior rider who is considered an outstanding ambassador in terms of good performance, overall contribution to the sport of dressage and contribution as a positive role model.

Program updates will be published on social media and via our website.
